What a wonderful opportunity we’ve been given this year to see for ourselves that what we believe is really true… that we can actually live it in a time when the world seems topsy-turvy, as Rick McKinney put it last week. The life of the Spirit given at Pentecost is indeed for real, and today we explore what it means for us as ordinary people in extraordinary times.

That’s what Jo Ann and Tony’s encouraging message addresses. Before going there, however, rest your weary soul or anxious mind by remembering and worshipping the God who is Present. After the message, be inspired by the “This Little Light” video

Speaking of being inspired, we have a special treat today! We have put together a tribute to all of our graduates this year, led by our Youth Pastor Jared Kunz. As always, you’ll also find a link to today’s Virtual Foyer, this week’s bulletin, and the message in hard copy. If you didn’t see it last week, you might be interested in our phased-in approach to re-opening our building. And thanks, as always, for your extraordinary giving!

Fire frightens us and entices us, often at the same time. We saw fires burning on the TV news this past week. And this morning we speak of a biblical story in which the fire of the Spirit came down from heaven to dwell in the lives of disciples on a day called Pentecost. We, too, have received that flame. We, too, have a light to offer the world. We, too, are the people of Pentecost. Today, no matter is going on in the world… or maybe because of it!… let us worship the God who has made us one with him and each other through his indwelling Spirit.

Today’s service includes, first, a greeting from our awesome worship team! It’s so good to see their faces and hear their unsung words of greeting and encouragement to us! And then they lead us in worship… join along… and sing with the Spirit in your soul. Go then to a short, upbeat video titled “Pentecost: Everything is New” and from there to Jo Ann and Tony’s message for us. How does Jesus transform us? Jesus “conflagrates”. He sets our souls on fire! The service ends with a blessing, and then you’re welcome to join the conversation in the Virtual Foyer or learn about “Hope in Hard Times” in our adult Bible class.

A message from our worship pastor, Shawn Erb:

It’s been 11 weeks. We thought you might miss seeing our faces 🙂  Check out this personalized greeting video from the worship teams to you. Then watch the worship set video to worship along with us. There is a power song in the middle called “The Blessing”, a song that is very relevant for all of us in these current times.

In this time of stress, it’s easy to lose sight of the gifts God gives… and one of the best is that of “abiding” in him during our in-between times, rather than waiting in anxious frustration. Jesus showed his disciples through and after his Ascension into heaven how to have their waiting transformed, so that they could live in God’s perfect timing. In today’s service…and this whole coming week… we’ll follow their lead.

So we begin with worship, as usual, remembering and honoring the good God who abides with us. Then go to the message Jo Ann and Tony have prepared for you. The service concludes with a song by Matthew West titled “The Beautiful Things We Miss.” You can find the song video, as well as a prayer guide hand-out that you can use each day for the rest of this week, under additional resources

You’ll also want to check out the announcements for the bulletin, offering, and a survey we’ve created to gather your feedback about how and when to re-assemble. If you can, please join us in the Virtual Foyer on Sundays at 11!

What does God want from us? From ME? What am I supposed to do, particularly now? Have you been asking those kinds of questions? Have you ever? So often it feels like God’s plans for us are a hidden secret that we’re never going to figure out. But what if that’s not the way it is? What if what God calls us to be and do is much more simple, more free, more joyful than that? Let’s explore that today!

The worship team has prepared some inspiring songs to help you worship the God who calls us. Sing along!.. .at home, in the Hosanna parking lot, in your car, or wherever you are. Watch the video at SermonSpice titled “Ignorable Calling” before going to this week’s message from Jo Ann and Tony (“How Jesus Transforms: Jesus Calls”). The service concludes with a beautiful song called “Banner of Love,” Remember the other ways you can participate today or later, such as the Virtual Foyer on Sundays at 11 AM, or Tony’s class on “Hope in Hard Times” on Sundays at 11:15 (You can sign up here to receive the invitation to the classroom.) And check out the announcements of other things going on! As always, let us know how you’re doing and we can pray for you and with you.

Message

Jesus calls us… and then re-calls us… because as he was transformed by his resurrection, so are we. And that includes the ways we live and what we do in this world. The video mentioned in the message, “Ignorable Calling”, can be viewed at SermonSpice.com.

Wouldn’t you like someone to explain “all this” to you? Wouldn’t you want someone to explain all the mysteries of life? Of course! One of the gifts Jesus offers us, particularly in our moments of bewilderment, is clarity. But it’s not always… not first… clarity of mind. That comes later, and is always imperfect. The clarity he gives us is deep in our hearts, as we trust in him. Today’s service is thus a worshipful profession of trust and a gentle, encouraging invitation to trust in the Risen Lord.

Begin with worship, and then move into the message. There’s an “extra” video clip posted below from “The Miracle Worker” movie. At one point in the message you’re invited to pause and go watch it, or you can save it till the end if you wish. And please join us for our virtual foyer at 11 AM so we can check in and take good care of each other as we deal with life’s joys and challenges this week.

Also take note of announcements…more than usual! And thanks again for continuing to support this ministry with your offerings and your service. You… and God… are taking good care of things. 🙂

Worship

Message

The disciples were even more bewildered than we are!… and that’s saying a lot, isn’t it? Hear how Jesus gave clarity to their hearts, and how he’s inviting us into the same kind of peaceful clarity and joyful trust.
